7 Ways to Avoid Burnout in Social Media During the Holidays

Updated: Jan 17

Can you believe December is right around the corner?

I know—it’s wild! At the start of the year, time felt slow, like it was taking its sweet time. But here we are, racing toward the end of the year at the speed of light, like Speedy Gonzales on a mission.

As the holiday season approaches, many of us feel the added pressure of keeping up with social media demands on top of everything else—holiday shopping, family gatherings, and trying to squeeze in some relaxation. BUT social media shouldn’t add stress. What it should do is enhance your brand and help you connect with your audience while you enjoy the season.

The holidays are meant for joy and celebration, NOT stress and burnout.

Today, I want to share 7 practical ways to reclaim your time and peace while still engaging effectively online during this busy season.

How You Can Avoid Burnout

1. Plan Ahead

The best gift you can give yourself this season is preparation. Start early. But if you haven’t yet been able to do so, know that it is totally okay.

You still have time to plan out for December and catch up. One of the best ways you can do this is by spending a day or two batch-creating your posts, so you’re not scrambling for content at the last minute.

If you want to explore some content themes you might not have considered, take a look here.

2. Set Boundaries

Decide on specific "on" and "off" hours for social media. It’s easy to get caught up in constant online interactions and in growing your business, but just because the internet never sleeps doesn’t mean you shouldn’t. Stick to your schedule and log off when you’ve reached your set time.

3. Simplify Content

When it comes to social media during the holidays, less can be more. Use templates for graphics and captions to save time. You don't have to reinvent the wheel either! You can repurpose your top-performing content from earlier in the year.

4. Automate What You Can

Scheduling tools can be amazing for automating your posts. There are plenty of tools out there that you can use, like Hootsuite, Meta Business Suite, Buffer, or Later. This will give you a bit of breathing space to engage thoughtfully at chosen times and not worry if you posted or not.

5. Incorporate Lighthearted Content

Bring some festive cheer into your content. Post easy, fun content like polls, questions, or share quick behind-the-scenes snapshots of your holiday prep. You can even put out a meme or two. This type of content is engaging and doesn’t require hours of production.

6. Engage with Purpose

Dedicate blocks of time for responding to comments and interacting with your audience. This way, you’re not continuously checking your phone or feeling chained to notifications. Remember, quality engagement beats quantity every time.

7. Schedule Self-Care Breaks

Block out digital detox days when you’re completely offline. Whether it's spending time with loved ones, indulging in a holiday hobby, or simply resting, these breaks will help you return to your work refreshed and ready to create with renewed energy.

And there we have it. I hope these tips help you have a bit of a breather during the holiday season.

Remember, managing social media without burning out is all about working smarter, not harder. Whether it's batching content, scheduling breaks, or setting boundaries, these small changes can lead to big results.💖
